My best work of 2017

I don’t compile a “Best of” list every December, but I felt compelled to for 2017.  That’s probably a good sign for how I feel about the work I did this year.  Some years I try to tackle a couple big projects, some years I take on a lot of little things.  This year I tried to do a little of both.

In 2017 I think I wrote on a variety of subjects and have a bunch of things I’m proud of.  So here are links to my favorite things I wrote, followed by other video/podcast projects at the bottom.

Thanks as always to those of you who support me by reading, sharing, commenting, etc.  Always appreciated.

To catch my best work in 2018 and beyond: You can follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.  You can subscribe to my sports podcast and my food podcast.  You can like the Facebook page for my game show.  You can also tell all your friends.  Hope you enjoy!

I had already made plans to cover the Vegas Golden Knights’ first ever home game.  Then there was a horrible mass shooting in Las Vegas the week before.  Here’s what I wrote about being in that city and in that arena for a hockey game.

I wish I hadn’t had the need to write about Roy Halladay dying in a plane crash, but I’m glad I wrote about his life and career.

February was my first time attending the Super Bowl.  I wrote a behind-the-scenes piece about what’s like being a Super Bowl media rookie.  I also had some fun video interviews with NFL players at the Super Bowl, and you can watch the best one here.

Strong opinion alert: As the Sixers entered the season with a lot of promise, I wrote about why I won’t shut up about Sam Hinkie.

Everybody’s got hot takes, but I enjoyed sharing all of my extremely lukewarm takes before the Warriors and Cavs met in the NBA Finals again.

My alma mater Lehigh University put together a documentary for the 5-year anniversary of beating Duke in the NCAA Tournament. They asked me to participate and it was a lot of fun getting to share my memories:

SI launched a live trivia game show!  And I get to play host in a sweet blazer.  We’ve taped seven episodes since launching this fall.  Like this page to get notifications when we return with live episodes in January.

I started a food podcast.  Mitch Eats Food has 16 episodes, all just 10-15 minutes focused on one meal at a time.  It’s been fun, especially to include friends as guests.

This doesn’t really fall under the “Best” category, but I added a new tab to my website that shows all the different stadiums I’ve been to, color-coded by sport.  I like it and I made it in 2017, so it makes the list.
